Colour Symbolism: Love and Metamorphosis (27 August 21)
The vibrance and excitement of meeting someone new, someone who makes your heart skip a beat and then going through the metamorphosis that would change you and your relationship into the soft, calm colours of love, trust, and companionship.
We saw them as flawed, chipped individuals. I say chipped and not broken because who they were at the beginning weren’t any less than who they became at the end. Some missing and cracked pieces were just put together.
They found each other at a time in their lives when they least expected it. For her, it was at her lowest point after an abusive relationship. For him, it was at a point when he didn’t believe in destiny but meeting her shook that belief.
It wasn’t your typical meet-cute in Kdramas. Their very first meeting was filled with attraction and sexual tension. Signs that would tell viewers this is bound for disaster. She was distrustful of his flirtatious attitude. He was a mysterious, magnetic man.
So while the vibrance of attraction was there, it sometimes overshadowed everything else. Colours that are too bright can hurt the eyes. And apparently the heart too. But the best part is that colours, like people, have range.
You can adjust their warmth, tone, and brightness. We saw them wear different shades of purple and green, different stages of their growth. They wore their darkest colours and their lightest ones. But one thing was for sure, they never hid them from each other.
Although they often had miscommunications, they always put their heart out for each other. The way she let him in despite her fears. Then he let her see through the facade. The way they helped each other heal. The way they grew into their own colours. Together.
This drama will always be healing to me. I will always look back on it as a time in my life where I was comforted because fictional characters depicted the magic in the mundane. I could not be more grateful.
I’m teary-eyed as I write this not only because I have to say goodbye to these characters and their story but because I’m grateful to have found a new friend-family group thanks to them. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to every single one of you.
Like I said during our Spaces, this show might not be anything special in terms of its storyline, but its wonder to me will always be in the subtlety and wondrous evocative lines, music, pregnant pauses, and its raw depiction of flawed people.
Again, thank you for waking something in me. It has been my utmost honour and pleasure to scream and cry and laugh and love this show with you. Thank you for taking the time to care about what I have to say. Thank you. Salamat. 감사합니다.
I love you forever.
