Character Growth, Beautiful Ending (23 August 21)

Image
This is my favourite part of the eps actually. The sequence is so beautifully matched to their growth story. Both have their own traumas, and once again, I'm in awe with how the writer and the director gave closure for this even in the smallest details. NB reaching out for his hand first, and then honestly expressing her request for him, "So don't go anywhere and stay by my side", is actually what JE needs all this time. This means the world to him.  JE has this fear of abandonment (maybe bcs of his parents), & this is also why he used to think that it's no use to be in a relationship, bcs putting a name on it doesn't literally guarantee anything but pain. That's why NB's first move is very impactful for him. He's incredibly touched. For him, it means that finally, for someone, his presence is needed. Much much needed. He won't be abandoned. He can finally let go of his trauma. Realising what NB's just done, his eyes getting teary immed...

Limited Omniscient POV (04 August 21)

Image
A friendly reminder that the story is being told in a limited omniscient point of view. In literature, this POV is an "over the shoulder" view of one character. In this drama, this is Nabi's. As such, the better way to understand this series is by trying to enter into Nabi's sensibilities. It is only by trying to look through her character's eyes that one would understand her every intent and action. Omniscient: god-like, full knowledge of all characters feelings and emotions Limited Omniscient: only know the thoughts and emotions of one character; may shift to other characters from time to time but will remain faithful to one character's POV most of the time. We would often see the Omniscient POV being used in most dramas as this is the easiest, most objective, and most flexible POV. There are instances, however, when the limited omniscient POV is a more effective device. In this case, the limited omniscient POV is part of what drives the entire narrative for...

"Weaken" vs "Lose Its Strength" (29 July 21)

Image
Idk why but on this particular part, i feel like the original script holds much more meaning than the translation. What Jaeeon actually said is "...확신하는 순간 그 관계는 힘을 잃으니까", where the last part is not "becomes weak", but more like "lose its strength". Although both have the similar meaning, but personally for me "lose its strength" explains more about his extreme view towards relationships. His fear that once you're certain of a relationship, you'll get nothing from it, everything's gone (not only "weaken"). He has trauma for sure.  fictionaltrash

LMLT as Jaeeon’s Theme (24 July 21)

Image
I already had feelings that it's gonna be Jaeeon's theme since the beginning...And the explanation, this cover, and also this release timing, just convinced me more about it… The very first time it's used in the drama. Yes, before this Jaeeon was already introduced during the first meeting, but it's from Nabi's memory, not the present time. This scene is like the official introduction of his character, as he's slowly entering Nabi's world. And at this perfect timing. The song started at the same time Jaeeon raised his hand :") Being the defensive person that he is, making an effort like this is not in his original characteristic, but he took chances, as if he's screaming the song to Nabi :") Not to mention the release timing. They waited up to this day, when tonight, for the first time ever, we'll be invited to get to know his POV. This song would be the perfect summary of his ultimate wish that he's still afraid to open yet, to be love...
