Is Seol-A Jaeeon’s “Fate” (10 August 21)

Interesting question! I forgot about him even saying this until you brought it up, but we can reasonably assume that his response is ironic. The convo between them grows more intense, as indicated by the BG music that it’s set to (evoking an anxious/somber tone).

But immediately after he says this the music changes to a brighter, friendlier song as SA smiles. They both know how ridiculous and ironic this notion is, hence the easing of tension. I think it’s fair to say from what we’ve seen so far that Seol-Ah is probably the person that knows JE best in the world. She’s the one that knows of his true intentions and feelings and he doesn’t seem to have anything to hide from her. It’s vastly different from the side that he shows everybody else prior to his relationship with NB.

We know that they’re old friends and we later learn that JE seems to have no romantic feelings for her. The other characters tell us that JE only used to hang out with girls, and those were those he had flirtations with, meaning he probably has little to no close friends, let alone those who know him as well as SA does. SA knows him, and they both know that he doesn’t have faith in the world to do right by him. So I do think that this line is consistent with his character and in line with his views on fate!
