Jaeeon: A Slowly Unravelling Character (01 August 21)
But isn’t that the point of his character though? JE is supposed to be this mysterious guy who’s a tiny bit obsessed with butterflies and who has a mother who neglected him as a child and a complicated past with his ex. These past episodes have been slowly unravelling all that baggage.
His point of view in ep6 was a glimpse into his thought processes. But it wasn’t all wrapped up with a pretty bow on top. There’s still so much to learn. You want to root for him, you wanna strangle him, but most of all I think, the writers want you (audience) to understand him.
Pretty interesting take on people with these kinds of personalities, actually. Because they do exist in real life. The Park Jae Eons of the world who use sex and casual relationships, never too intimate, as a coping mechanism. They aren’t flat out bad people, of course not.
But it’s easier to paint them that way especially when you’re on the receiving end of the he-doesn’t-like-you-back stick. Not saying asshole fuckboys don’t exist either. There are truly vile men out there who will use and discard women and people according to their whim.
But I don’t think JE is one of them. Neither does NB, but she’s not yet ready to admit that. None of these characters are flat, even DH, though I still stand by my point about him. They’re supposed to be a reflection of the complicated nature of human beings.
