Nabi’s Volition: The Show’s Intended Message (23 January 22)
“But I think the viewers probably won’t be able to escape when they watch this drama”
PD Kim Garam knew EXACTLY what she wanted the viewers to see, feel, and remember when they watch the series — and she succeeded.
“I really hate you (…) But I feel better now that I see you.”
“Let’s date.”
“You won’t regret it?”
“Of course I will, but I’ll still do it”
This exchange between Nabi and JE encapsulates what Kim PD said during this presscon “This is what this story is about.”
In the end, Nabi chose to be with Park Jaeeon, and she did so with a smile and a strong conviction -- on her own accord, on her own volition.
She acknowledges that she may end up feeling hurt again, but she chose to love him again, and fully, this time around.
And Nabi going in for the kiss symbolises that she will choose him, over and over again, relaying a powerful message: That love begins as a feeling and ends up as a choice -- a strong decision, a promise, a commitment to love an imperfect person, over and over.
This is why the last scene with DH in the cafe was also significant. Nabi can always walk away anytime, but despite the brief hesitation, she still chose to hold JE's hand and walk with him -- a reiteration that she chose and will continue to choose Park Jaeeon.
