Unapologetic Artistic Direction (08 January 22)
*takes a breath*
Let me get into IT.
A lot of people's perception of this show are projections of their own experiences and views on love and dating. I also had my judgments in the beginning, but I knew from the first episode that it was already something special.
This show was a departure from the KDramas that I was used to and it blew my mind that it was so brave in its artistic direction. Nevertheless was unapologetic in its message - that people are flawed, we are capable of change, and our autonomy is our greatest strength.
Every episode was a treat, and unwrapping the lines, the scenes, and the metaphors was akin to indulging in a hard candy with a surprise centre.
A lot of people's gripes about the show comes down to preference as well. We all like what we like, but acting wise, Kang and So Hee were amazing here. There was so much restraint in portraying these two characters, so many things left to body language and micro expressions..
so much acting that had to be done without the aid of dialogue and I personally believe that they were able to do this beautifully. Their chemistry was also so satisfying to watch - they just simply fit, and the tension they created between these two characters was electric.
Nevertheless is not a perfect drama by all means, but I love it all the more because of this. The drama is not the source material, it is an entirely different piece in itself and people should understand that.
