Bittersweet - Nevertheless Review (21 October 22)

A not so mainstream drama with a bittersweet storyline. A story that is more aligned to what happens in real life. It was interesting to watch how characters succumbed to their desires even though they knew it might be wrong.

I have read so many negative reviews for this one but I actually don't understand why people find it not interesting. The main leads are beautiful together; their chemistry and the sexual tension throughout keeps you on edge. Even the side characters have a good story.

Song Kang as Park Jae Eon played a bad boy which is not so common. We need to understand that not everything is white or black. People exist even in the grey belt. He never once disrespected or harmed Nabi. He never promised any commitment to her. It's all expectations.

Maybe if they showed more of his past; we would've understood why he was afraid of commitment. He never received love; his mom left when he was 10. The lack of his past made him seem more toxic. He was wounded and couldn't recognize his own emotions until he fell for Nabi.

Nabi on the other hand was full of love; to give and to receive. Her last relationship was fucked up because of how controlling her ex was. Whereas Jaeeon never once forced her; she was happy with him. She felt pathetic because she wanted more than what he could give her.

Han So Hee has aced her role here. Not once I couldn't decipher what Nabi was feeling. I loved the character development. How she finally ends up enjoying art again in the last episode. She becomes more confident and radiant as the story proceeds.

The chemistry...phewww! One of the hottest kdrama couples. The spark, the tension, the happiness and the development in their relationship is worth watching.

This one scene was so so so beautiful. He tries to convey and confess his feelings but it's so hard for him. He almost tears up but leaves before he crumbles in front of her. He knew he was a changed man but it was too late. He couldn't let Nabi suffer more because of him.

I did feel bad for Do Hyeok; he definitely was the better option but she couldn't love him the way he loved her. The fact that Nabi very clearly told him that she couldn't be in a relationship with him without leading him made me so happy.

The potato boy did his best but to be honest I did not get any second lead syndrome. Leave aside chemistry but he was too sweet to get tangled in the mess.

The side stories are also worth the mention. 2 girlfriends and 1 best friend to lovers trope. How Ji Wan was confused about her feelings for Sol and how Bit Na did not know the meaning of being in a relationship makes us realize how different people are.

The last scene where the main leads kiss in front of the sculpture says so much. For Jae Eon; "Nabi '' always meant lack of freedom but in the end when he is finally without Nabi he knows that to be free he needs to find himself first before actually being with her.

The show itself is a beautiful process of how a butterfly comes out of cocoon. It has layers and the show slowly unravels into a beautiful story that deserves appreciation.
